In Compulsive Compression Disorder (2012), I have sampled and modified a scene from Francis Ford Coppola’s film, The Conversation (1974).
The images show a large industrial hall with an elevator in a corner. I have zoomed into the film material to the extent that the image becomes
dark and unrecognizable. My video is repeatedly zooming out and in, while the elevator keeps going up and down. The work is presented on a
wall in a small room, covering the whole wall to create an illusion of the physical room expanding and contracting, always returning to the same
starting point. The location in the film becomes both motif and scenographic backdrop in my work.
